No trip to Utah would be complete without seeing a Mormon temple. I believe there are actually two in town, but maybe more. I actually snapped this pic the first day I was here, but I rode by it today and figured I’d post it.
Although this is my lighter workday, I had meetings during my breaks so I wasn’t able to go skiing. No problem, it is my job after all and skiing comes second. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to go tomorrow or Friday. I’ll go both days over the weekend and deal with more crowds and snowboarders. All good. Plus, it’s supposed to snow. Today was the first overcast day and it looked, to me, like it was snowing at Snowbasin, but I could have the wrong mountain. I think I’m just on the other side of the mountain. Could be a peak or two off though.
I did a wee bit of active recovery by riding downtown. I rode down the cool hipster street to check out places to eat when one of my kids come out next week. There are a lot of places so it’s good I have three visitors lined up. You can eat inside (wearing a mask) so at least it’s not completely shutdown. I rode around and saw The Raptors baseball field. They are a Pioneer League baseball team. That’s an independent baseball league that “partners” with MLB: So, not even minor league? If I come here during the season, I’m the exact kind of guy that would go there. I love minor league ball. After college, I went to a ton of Madison Muskie games. $5 got you a ticket, two food items, and a drink. They were A ball so it was pretty terrible. When I was in El Paso for military duty I would go to the Diablo games. They were double-A and had 10 cent hot dog nights (Dudley Dogs…named because the stadium was called the Dudley Dome despite it not being a dome). The fans there were so nice; they always asked if I wanted some of their homemade salsa for my dogs. Obviously, there aren’t any minor league teams where I live unless I drive hours. Boo. Yes, we have two pro-teams, but honestly, I’d rather watch minor league baseball (pro hockey, though). But I digress.
It was a short bike ride so I didn’t see too much. I don’t think there really is much to see. There are a couple of places I want to go, but I might wait until one of my visitors is here. Specifically, how can you pass up a dinosaur park?
Before I forget, every day here is like Air & Water Show practice. Today, for whatever reason, seemed to be extra heavy with jet traffic from the AFB nearby. Kind of cool to look up during a bike ride and see a jet flying overhead (when it’s not about to bomb you). Another thing I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of (but I bet most locals are sick of it or don’t even notice it anymore). Like the mountains. I’m in awe every time I look out the window (like now, my desk overlooks the mountains and I never tire of seeing it all day long as the sun rises and falls and make the rocks different colors. So cool)
That’s it. I played guitar, did work, bike ride, and now I’ll read for an hour before I watch a show or two, read some more, and go to bed. I came so close to sleeping through the night last night. Sigh.
