Welcome

Now that was crowded…

My younger son made it out here on Friday night and yesterday we hit the slopes.  I knew it was going to be crowded, but it beat my expectations.  For one, I knew it would be bad when we had to park in a remote lot and take a shuttle.  I don’t care about where we park other than it meant there were a ton of people there.  A lot more than in the past weeks.  Makes sense; it’s Christmas break and it’s a weekend.

The lines for the lift were a bit brutal.  Each line near the base was close to 15 minutes and then it’s another 10-15 to the ski run.  I’m not a fan of standing there.

The skiing itself was fine, but again, I don’t like crowds because I’m a crash waiting to happen.  How I didn’t run into someone or them into me is a miracle.  I only took five runs but it took hours.  We’ll go again today for a short time, both so my son can ski (though he only likes to go for 90 minutes or so) and I can get some exercise.

I need the exercise because my normally poor diet was really bad yesterday.  My son, though 18 years old, has never eaten at Taco Bell and wanted to see if it was worth diarrhea.  I won’t be snotty, but there really is no reason in Chicago to eat at Taco Bell unless you are drunk and it’s 3:00 a.m.  There are too many actual Mexican spots.  I’m sure it’s the same in most cities.  He did not like it.  Granted, he wasn’t drunk and it wasn’t 3:00 a.m.  That was lunch.  For dinner we got Dominos.  Today I think we’ll try to go out for a real meal somewhere.  I don’t want to go buy a bunch of groceries to cook here because I’m leaving in two days.

When we got back from skiing we watched some bad tv (Doomsday Preppers) and then he watched a movie while I watched the OSU game.  Today we’ll do the same but it’ll be the Bears.

All good.  Getting ready to go home for 10 days to see my wife, other kids, and the dog.  Unfortunately, we won’t be able to get together with our family in Ohio, but we do have a very nice holiday planned at home.  I’m excited about it. (and it’s rare for me to be excited about anything so I’m figuring this re-set/break/vacation is doing exactly what I wanted it to do).
