And so ends the first half of my ski season. Yesterday was my last day skiing in Utah until March (more on that in a minute).
When I left my place it was overcast, but that was it. By the time I made it to the mountain, it was a full on blizzard. I decided I’d go for a few runs anyway. Uh, no.
It was a full-on white out. I couldn’t see the snow under me, couldn’t see more than two feet in front of me, and oddly, I couldn’t even tell where the mountain was behind me. When I would turn, I had difficulty telling where I was up/down on the mountain, let along east/west. It was crazy! Plus, powder all over. I can’t say it was fun, but it also was kind of cool in a way.
Still, I’m not an idiot. It was one and done. Although, my app gave me credit for two runs because it counted the ski run from the parking lot to the lift.
Ending totals for Dec-Jan
25 Days
138 Runs
225,800 feet vertical
231 miles
2817 ft tallest run
3.3 miles longest run
59.1 top speed (I can only assume that was falling, but the next highest is 41)
Cost per day: $48
Cost per run: $8.69
I made a lot of progress on my skiing. This last two weeks I started doing black runs (the harder ones) and, while I didn’t look like a pro, I wasn’t that bad. The photo above is the first black I did. Not terribly hard, but the later ones were some of the harder ones. Much steeper and more moguls. The last one I did was black from the top of the mountain all the way down. That was difficult. I had watched some You Tube about how to ski moguls which helped a lot. Also, it’s a lot easier to do it in powdery conditions. Anyway, I was happy with that.
I will be back to ski over spring break, but probably in Park City. Despite it being a super hot real estate market, our first bid was accepted and we are now scheduled to close in mid-March. We’ll come out for spring break to celebrate in our new house! Since it’s 5 minutes from Park City, we’ll probably ski there, but since I still have the Snowbasin pass, I’ll ski there a couple of days even if it is a 45 minute drive.
Tomorrow I start driving back to Chicago. I’m ready. Not that I don’t love living out here, but I do miss my family. It’s sort of lonely to not have them around. It’s also been a crazy few weeks with the house, some kid stuff, work possibly striking, and I’d like to just get back to my house/routine for a bit.
There is a lot of good in this post friend!
