Friday I left Utah to come back home. I was ready. I left at 5:30 a.m.
I was 0 for 0 in Utah. I didn’t see any police in speed traps and didn’t get any speeding tickets.
Sadly, I was 1 for 4 in Wyoming. While it was still dark I went by a Wyoming State Trooper parked on the shoulder*. I didn’t see him pull out and follow me. He got me going 89 in a 75. I saw three more troopers in Wyoming laying traps, but I learned my lesson and get my speed down.
I went 0 for 0 in Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois.
I don’t know what got under Wyoming’s skin, but they were out. TBH, I can’t say I mind. First, I was speeding. Second, maybe 30-45 minutes after I was stopped, the wind was going crazy. 50+ mph gusts. I naturally didn’t speed, but I sort of get why Wyoming might’ve been trying to tamp down idiots like me that would’ve been flying through there. Third, the tickets was for $130. I don’t know about where you live, but Illinois and Wisconsin (the other places I’ve gotten tickets in my 38 years of driving (like maybe 2 total before this), there were closer to $300.
I made decent time and drove about 12:30 the first day to Lincoln NE and then home yesterday. I got home around 2:00 p.m which worked out perfectly because a decent winter storm hit around 4:00 p.m. A foot or more of snow and it’s still coming down today. That was exactly what I wanted to miss on the road.
I’m home and it’s all good. Full house of wife, kids (and another one hanging with my daughter), the dog and all my own gear and furniture. Nice.
*I’ll give them credit, they have great cars. Also, he was very nice. Not nice enough to let me off with a warning, but it was a pleasant stop as far as stops go.
