As the kids say, it’s been a minute. Six and a half months give or take a day. It’s all been good; I just haven’t cared to post.
Tonight, however, I thought I’d post to mark time. I’ve been blogging off/on since way back but I keep deleting all the posts or blogs. I’m fine doing that but every now and again I think it’d be nice to look back to what I was thinking or doing in 2010 or 2015 or whenever. Even typing that, I know I’ll delete all these posts too in a year or so.
What’s gone on since the date of my last post, 2/4/21. Not much. Spring was return to work in-person. It was great to be back in the building but it wasn’t close to the good old. I finished out the work year and promptly left town. I spent a week in Indiana and then four weeks in Utah. Utah is my happy place. It is the opposite of where I live. Mountains, active outdoor lifestyle, relaxed, and a nice break from where I am. I spent the time mountain biking (both trail and downhill), hiking, trail running, SUP and generally just being outside. It was great. It got a little lonely after visits from my wife and a buddy. My wife was awesome in letting me take that break, but it was hard on her so I cut it shorter than intended and came home. TBH, I was ready to come back. It’s way more fun hiking and biking with other people. I’m looking forward to spending more and more time out there as we retire.
The rest of the summer I hung out at home with the kids. I’m glad I did because the younger son left for college last weekend and the older son leaves tomorrow. There will be a much different vibe in the house with just the daughter still at home. Add in she got her DL and a car and it will be a VERY different vibe. It’s what it is, just going to be quieter (which I’m looking forward to and the wife cries nightly about).
Work started up recently and it’s great so far. I’m really looking forward to this year. Oh sure, but October those hopes for a great year will be dashed, but in the meantime I’m going to ride my enthusiasm for all it’s worth.
I started running with a non-purpose again. I say that because I am “training” and following a program to build in miles, but it’s a non-purpose because I don’t have a race in mind. I just want to get back to running some distance. This week I also started weightlifting at work. Nothing big, just a quick program. The older I get the more important it is to keep some muscle.
That’s it. Short version. All good.
