#2 Seven Samurai

I don’t intend to re-watch movies on the list I’ve previously seen, but I will always make an exception for Seven Samurai.

I did a bit of research on it and one of the things that makes it a top movie is it is the first “get the gang together” movie ever.  So many superhero movies and heist movies use that formula.  There are other interesting things about cinematography etc (like using long shots but close sound…as at the beginning when horses are going by…the shot is a long shot of the horses, but the sound is as if they are close).  Anyway, you can research it, but it’s a great movie; worth the watch (even if it is hella long)

One of the most thrilling movie epics of all time, Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samurai) tells the story of a sixteenth-century village whose desperate inhabitants hire the eponymous warriors to protect them from invading bandits. This three-hour ride from Akira Kurosawa—featuring legendary actors Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura—seamlessly weaves philosophy and entertainment, delicate human emotions and relentless action, into a rich, evocative, and unforgettable tale of courage and hope. – Criterion Blurb
